i may be wrong (and don't flame me if i am,) but it seems like the 6G ipod should make its way to the shelves instead of an updated 5G. the 5G has been out for almost a year , hasn't it?
Bring on an iPhone/iPod instead. The iPhone is looong overdue.

In other words, what we saw tonight was nowhere near the final form of the application.

This statement has me a bit puzzled. FCP is supposed to be out in around 2 months. Are they going to rush the rest into FCP in this amount of time, or get the basics in there, then drag onto multiple updates? Would be a shame to not have it fully ready for release. I'm a little skeptical if the rest will be ready by June. Nothing stinks worst than having a program that's touted a super program, to find out it wasn't ready for release. Just hope apple doesn't rush this one out the door. It looks to put the competition to shame if it can deliver.
The build they showed was an old build, at least a few months old, and also keep in mind it is basically going to be a version 1 application. Sure there are some things stolen from other Apple apps but I would expect FCP X to have v1 problems just any new app would.

The parties involved in these enterprises are typically very wealthy individuals or groups who support the government officials who keep the military maintained in good condition to enforce proper capitalism across international borders.

    OMG.

So we're supposed to go broke maintaining a bloated military to protect corporate interests abroad?

    How insane is that?!

You probably would. I think Spanish is the world's 2nd-most spoken language. Well, don't know about Chinese... Besides, you are being America-centric here, there are markets outside the US, you know, like Spain. Reference works like Dictionaries and Thesauruses will probably be bestsellers for such a device. If I go somewhere, I could load it with a dictionary for the national language for the country, say English-Spanish. My Spanish is not good, so if it could pronounce it for me, all the better. And I know of English speakers who can't read or spell very well either. My brother's dyslexic, and yet also a programmer. The Spanish were the first to discover and explore America, you know (though 500 years after the Vikings). In Canada they're split between English and French. They're like Americans without the attitude or penchant for invading other countries.

Agreed...one day "americans" will learn that there is a world (and a much bigger market) out there, before making such comments...

Hey guys, allow me to redirect the conversation here because I think you're all missing the point a little bit:

OK, so I just watched the video and all I can say is that the video demo IN NO WAY proves that they've done what they say they can do. First, the BIGGEST thing in this exploit was that this hack was supposed to work without having to connect the hacked machine to any network, yet the first thing they did in the demo was CONNECT the Mac to the Dell!!! Not to mention that they attached a third-party network adaptor (if that was even what it was). Even then, all they got was a shell for the current user.

That doesn't even start to get to the issue of what the video actually showed--which was VERY LITTLE. Just watch it, where is the proof that they even actually did the things which they claimed? I could have made that video EASILY. When I first read the report, I thought the video was going to be one of something that was done LIVE! Hardly...

Indeed, the question of whether this hack actually works is called into question, but I doubt they'd go through the stuff just to fool us. What they were getting at is the Mac just has to have it's airport card connected. A computer will connect to any network it detects that has the same SSID. So if the mac had connected to the network belkin54g sometime in the past, they can spoof the SSID on the Dell to be a belkin54g, thereby allowing them to hack the mac, so to speak.

However, the video does lack a little bit of detail, mainly, was a third computer outside the room using a Mac with Apple Remote Desktop.

I like the hardware buttons on the classic because I can press them through my pocket when I am working. When I gave my classic to my sister and used my touch while I was working, it was a pain to have to pull it out of my pocket to change the song or play/pause. I liked the easy volume change buttons on the touch though. But still the touch buttons are too close together and half the tie I restart the song instead of pausing it.

And as far as Safari being the fastest browser, you believe in ads way too much...

    No, I believe the benchmarks...
    http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/browserStatistics.action

You'll notice that only the Chrome beta is faster than Safari 4, and only on one specific processor. Everywhere else Safari wins.

And when has there ever been a Safari ad?

So what would you do with this edu discount option, now that everything's been updated to the C2D line:

13.3" MBP (White - mid level) for $1199
    13.3 MBP (Black) for $1399
    OR
    15.4 MBP for $1799.

What's the sweet spot -- if you're doing all the basics plus occasional video editing of short commercial projects and the periodic photoshop use?

Does your screw stick out a little bit or is it leveled with the plastic?

It's level in the plastic, and dead center, so it's really hardly noticeable. Not sure why they had to do that though, you'd think they could fasten it the same way they do the old heatsink. Of course, I don't know much about heatsink placement and MB mobo's, so I should just keep my mouth shut I guess.

What is the truth exactly? I understand what you mean that 3G was more along then some think but I get the impression (and I could be wrong) that you are saying that it is Apples fault for AT&Ts network issues?
I was referring to this sentence (below) from the article. It's false. The truth is 3G in general, not just AT&T's network was very mature.

Next is the fact that Apple did not choose a chip that was 100% compatible with the network, despite being advised of what the correct chip was, as tested and proven by other manufacturers. I bought the original iPhone as my personal phone, in addition I carried my work issued 3G Samsung Blackjack. When I could not make a call or hold a signal with my iPhone, I'd pickup the Blackjack and it was loud, clear and rarely ever dropped a call. So that was proof positive that AT&T was not the problem.

I really - really like Apple, but dislike some of their tactics like finger pointing when a problem arises.

A familiar example is the very moment that the antenna issue came up, instead of Jobs acting professional and saying something like " we were unaware and will look into it ". No, he had to be a condescending jerk and say " you're holding it wrong". That's arrogant to the extreme, uncalled for, and unacceptable. The only reason he got away with it is because he's Steve Jobs. A man that sadly, many people worship. They have higher esteem for him than themselves. Pitiful really.

Apple waited to adopt 3G technology until is had significantly matured, opting to release the original iPhone as an EDGE-only device despite relatively widespread 3G coverage

3D is an additional feature. If you wish to not use it, by all means, don't use it. Your experience will not change.

It will be the same as adjusting your brightness. Not everyone wants a super bright screen, just the same, not everyone wants to view their device in 3D. There is a zero chance Apple releases a 3D product without the means of turning it off.

Adjusting the 3DS's 3D capabilities is a slider away. If you want to play your games in 2D, the way you've always done, you can still do this with ease. 3D is an additional feature for times you may want to use 3D on your device (watching Avatar on a plane). It doesn't mean you're going to be forced to use 3D while reading the New York Times.

I think what people are annoyed with is the constant discussion of 3D in mainstream media. It IS annoying, and I wish for it to stop, but at the same time, I can't find a reason why this technology would be bad for the iPad / iPhone, as it's being added on to the interface, rather than replacing it.

I think that by far the most pragmatic and likely scenario is that the slogan refers to streaming video on Apple TV and perhaps the iPhone, coupled with some content-related announcements (hi-def and/or rentals).

    That's all, nothing more exciting.

I'm sorry to tell this. It's strange to read 'There's something in the air' after just finishing reading an article about the biggest carpet bombing operation since 2003.
    1) But I'd like to have my poor Airport Express updated for sound while watching movies.
    2) And the poor iPod HIFI should be an iPod WIFI.
    2) Wireless Blu-ray for the MacBook Nano.
    3) iPhone 2 as a high speed internet hub when using the MacBook on the road.
    4) A solution to get rid of all the cables?

What's fairly obvious is that if ordinary people were in a position to make decisions concerning their community/country/state they would make a far better job than the "expert" economists, legislators, businesspeople and so on who do very well by making a complete balls up of the lives of people in individual countries.

(-885 billion and 112.5% of SS deficit solved)

I think the professionals are better educated to make those decisions than we are. It's just one of those things that's easier said than done.

For me, among other things I'd raise taxes on the rich, cut military by killing expensive but marginal projects like experimental weaponry, temporarily lower funding for technological research related projects for NASA and Green tech. Just from that, I'd have the wealthy, Republicans, the military-industrial complex, scientists, and environmentalists all trying to gut my budget proposal. The political realities outweigh the fact it looks simple on paper.

As I said above, free will is a foundational truth that can't be overlooked. God has given you the ability to reject him and you are simply exercising that choice
Sorry to seem to be excessively contrarian, but even here we have a problem. At least I do, some others will probably disagree with me. Of course in the first place, the "god has given you" assertion is irksome. You are apparently not even able to say "you have free will", it has to come from your god person. I mean, I understand where you are coming from, you have to realize that constantly attributing everything to your god person actually tends to detract from what you are saying.

But more importantly, I think the very concept of free will is grossly overstated. "Free will" is actually a very trivial component of human behavior, the lion's share consists of responding to events, which may be of immediate or deferred effect or consequence. Most of what we do involves following well-established patterns, sometimes adjusting a little for a particular situation.

Now I am aware that this kind of Skinnerian behaviorism is a bit extreme for most people to deal with, but my own personal observations (as I go through life and deal with people and animals) have yet to find fault with it. The reality is that I did not choose to believe what I do just as I am not at liberty to just adopt a different belief set. Perhaps a head trauma could turn me into a Baptist or Kufi, but even then, the choice would not be mine. If your god did make us, this is how it did, and the vaporous notion of free will upon which your religion is based is what you want, not so much how things truly are.

I'm not sure how you can call the iPhone 4 a "POS". I've had all the iPhones and it is MUCH better in about 10 different ways. Don't listen to all the stupid BS about the antenna... I've NEVER had the issue unless I sat they and tried to do it exactly as told. Even then, minimal. iPhone 4 has many more features, and even just the design, makes the previous ones look like toys.

If I were involved in the design and heard comments like that, I'd be offended. Or actually, probably just ignore it, since the person saying that doesn't know what they're saying... sorry to be mean, but I just don't get it.

I could cause the antenna to lose all its bars by placing my one finger on the antenna... Thats ridiculous. And anyone who has one, on the At&T network and says "I've never dropped a call" is a fanboi in the worst way and flat out lying. All my iPhones, - and even non-iPhones - on AT&T's network drop calls period, all the time. Even if the antenna design was perfect on the iPhone 4, it would drop calls because of At&T's network, so yea... I don't believe that in a second.

Not to mention all the problems people were having with the screen, and the proximity sensors... and thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there is/was more. Also, I refused to buy another iPhone that didn't have more than 32 GB of space, since I'm currently maxing out the capacity on my current 32 GB iPhone. Thus, I decided not to upgrade to avoid dealing with all that. Really, the 4 was just problems and a few spec increases. The increased resolution of the display means nothing to me without a larger screen, and the 3GS was fast enough at the time. The one and only thing that I would have enjoyed is the bump in RAM.

Also, design-wise, I'd take the original iPhone over any of the others. It's too bad the AL causes havoc with radio signals. I would think someone who supposedly had all the iPhones would agree. And at least not think it looked like a "toy".

Good thing your not a designer, since when you designed crap and people called you out on it you'd be offended. You'd probably not be able to emotionally handle it.

And I 100% know what I'm talking about. Because I have an Anti-Apple opinion doesn't mean I'm ill-informed and I don't know what I'm talking about. I've worked on and dealt with enough electronics to have an informed opinion.
