So the iPod Nano and Shuffle are failures in the same context?
No, I'm not talking about MP3 players I'm talking about phones. Nokia and Sony Ericsson, for example, is losing market share while Apple is gaining it from them.

I would personally benefit more from the increase in CPU power in Sandy Bridge than I would suffer from the weaker Intel IGP. I'm not purchasing a MBA to play 3d games or do 3d content creation. I have other electronics more specialized/suited to those tasks (console & desktop, respectively). What I would see a benefit in is audio/video encoding, file archive compression speeds, Photoshop editing, Illustrator content creation, CCS3/JavaScript animation and any other CPU reliant tasks. Of course any GPU accelerated tasks are a different matter entirely and would need to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
That said, I may pick up a current gen MBA based simply on the fact that it's a known entity with a generally positive and proven reputation. The hypothetical Sandy Bridge MBA could end up being a great product too, but then again it could be a flawed wreck. Only time will tell.
As I see it, the non-gamer would generally benefit from a Sandy Bridge MBA over a C2D one. Gamers on the other hand are typically limited by the GPU, not CPU, so would be better to stick with a nVidia 320M based Air.

Considering the Mini got bumped lately do you reckon that's very likely?
Yes.
I'm sure Apple will progress the Mini to C2D when they Macbook is updated. The Mini only received a minor speed bump the last time around and I bet it had more to do with keeping consistant pricing than it did with updating a product.

i honestly have no idea lol
just looked at the preferences and under settings it was set as no preference, does that mean big WU's? i dont think the G5 has the muscle to kick the big WU's under the deadlines.
The G5 doesn't have the power for big wu's, from my experience they don't make good folding machines which is too bad as there are a lot of them still out there.

I hope Lion will mark the end of DVD drives in all Macs ... they can be an additional option so that whoever needs one can pay for it - I don't have any need for it and Lion should be available as download and USB stick. I haven't bought any software on DVD in ages - I will always opt for downloads - DVD is a technology from the last century.
Providing the OS on stick drive makes sense for an expensive machine like the Macbook Air, where people are paying more for the tiny size. And boo to only offering 10.7 over the Mac App Store.
Hmm, something is wrong with my memory or math ... last time I checked the MacBook Air was the cheapest laptop from Apple and has the USB included - all the more expensive laptops have old fashioned DVDs.

well, speaking figuratively here, there is a free iPod. If I were to give you one as a gift, then it would be free, no? :p
D
it wouldn't be exactly 'free' for you, would it? Or is there a truck somewhere that's missing an iPod? :D
and on that line of thinking, if you feel like buying one and sending it to me, knock yourself out. :)

aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh I want to buy this!!!! But alas I cannot afford it at present, well it depends on if I get a 3DS next weekend or not. But having used the demo of Outlook I love it, much better then Mail IMO.
If anyone knows of a cheaper price then around 160 in the UK let me know cause that's the best I've found.

I think Windows 7 is pretty damn good, both from a user standpoint and a developer standpoint. As an end user OS, it's pretty nice - TONS of media options besides the Apple Ecosystem (TM), and Aero is quite nice.
As a developer OS, Visual Studio has one of the strongest debugging tools around - provided you learn how to effectively use them.
As an enterprise OS, there are immense amounts of control and management - albeit very, very expensive ones xD
I wouldn't trade some aspects of OS X, like the Unix-ish core - but if Windows took up a Unix-ish backend I'd probably dump OS X in a heartbeat and probably never look back.
Don't get me wrong, OS X is a fantastic OS and I've enjoyed using it for the past 10 years, and I'll probably continue to buy many more Macs. Sometimes, I get tired of Steve Jobs' pigheaded nature and the last 2 releases of OS X haven't really had any new uniquely Apple things. Lion doesn't exactly look promising on that front. :\
It's still really good though, but it hurts to see the amount of crap I see on this board as far as childish behavior regarding what OS someone decides to use. I've carried around my Vaio before and had some Mac friends trash talk my Vaio, and carried my PowerBook around and had my PC friends trash talk my Mac lol :D

Apart from the streaming fail, Garmin are way too late to the party. Even when everyone was criticising TomTom, I went and bought it and it (for me) is the ultimate GPS navigator. Free map and service updates, no streaming involved, full multitasking support, been flawless in its navigation, accurate in its info (time of arrival is almost always spot on) and there's traffic when I want it for longer journeys, albeit not free.
The mapping display also doesn't look like a Scooby Doo 'toon unlike the Garmin app, judging from these screenshots...

Oh I didn't realize they wanted to eliminate funding, I thought it was just an argument over reducing it.
Not only that, but if they really just wanted to achieve a 2% spending cut, they wouldn't've had to include such a touchy program in the list. Seems to me like they don't care if the government shuts down, since they believe the Democrats will get the blame, so they either let the gov shut down or they force Democrats to accept their cuts. It's a win-win for them.

Well the iMacs did get the Core 2 Dou processors after the Mac Pro. The Mac Pros came out with Core 2 Dou first.
just so you know, mac pro NEVER had, let along past tense, Core 2 Duo (or Core 2 Dou)
Woodcrest (Xeon), as much as it might have the similar technology underlying its processor, is NOT Core 2 Duo.

Following on from this story, apparently FoxConn will be supplying Apple with 15.4" MacBooks/MacBook Pros in May 2007.
Source: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20061026PR206.html
If it's a new 15.4" MacBook, there's a good chance it'll have dedicated graphics, otherwise what's the point? Apple certainly need more Macs with dedicated graphics in their consumer-priced range. Here's hoping!

Why is everyone ragging on Facebook for this?
It's not as if they invented it.
Foursquare, Loopt and Gowalla have had these types of apps for many many months.

Just shows Apple is thinking where others do not. Apple are providing or creating outlets for their devices while other companies just produce mp3 players.
