Agreed.I couldn't possibly hate it more.If they do it hopefully I'll be able to turn it off,or better yet buy a separate model without it.
    Worst gimmick ever.

for newer phones i heard Sprint is making people give up the SERO plan

ahh yes, SERO, thanks knew it had a name haha...

anyways, after searching the sprint site here is what i've found

SERO rate plans are no longer available for new line activations, although existing customers are allowed to remain on these plans.

SERO Basic rate plans are not compatible with most Smartphones. If you upgrade to a Smartphone on one of the following operating systems: Windows Mobile 7, Blackberry, Android, Web OS and the Instinct family of devices you will need to upgrade your plan to a SERO Premium rate plan. In addition 4G Smartphone activations will require an additional $10/line/mo. Premium Data add-on charge in addition to requiring the SERO Premium plan.

So as far as I can tell, as long as you have it you can keep it, and you just need a SERO Premium plan (as opposed to Basic) if you want to have a smartphone and keep your SERO plan. It says you can upgrade though if you are on a SERO Basic to a SERO Premium.

Here's a question to ponder...How are people suppose to install this firmware if there macbooks keep shutting down?

Anyways, I reccomend people use this firmware instead of geting their heatsink replaced. The later option involves an ugly screw in the middle of your macbook.

You do go back a few years!!

Wasn't Tandy sort of a big name in computers back in the 80's? It seems like when I was little quite a few people had Tandy computers from RS.

Google for "thread 500" and click the top match--always hilarious :)

If the new nanos played games and videos (I know--really small) I'd HAVE to buy one. So I'm glad they don't :)

The case combines the best of the Mini and Nano--all good.

So why are there no nano games? Just because the screen is so small?

Apple should bundle the ClickToFlash plug-in into Mobile Safari. It prevents flash from running unless you really want it to run. This should address, in part, Apple's stated reason for not allowing flash (battery drain and stability) as the user would only enable it for those parts of the web that they really want to see.

And, while they are at it, they should enable file uploads in Mobile Safari to upload photos and videos.

I hate only being able to use part of the internet on my iPhone when there is no technical reason I shouldn't be able to do both Flash on demand and file uploads.

The ClickWheel "interface" of the classic is a royal pain in the back when you have to navigate through thousands of titles.

It's easy to navigate with the click wheel if your songs are properly tagged. I'd rather use it than the iOS iPod app. :)

Sad part is, as adoption increases...so will viruses/malware/trojans/etc.

    Best analogy Ive heard is:

Windows 7 is a house with bars on the windows, and industrial locks on the doors...in Baltimore.

OSX is a house with no locks, in the middle of nowhere.

The security-through-obscurity myth of OS X has long been debunked. Do you know what the most used computer OS in the world is? Linux. And there are very, very few viruses for linux.

The rampant virus ecosystem is a flaw in Windows, not an inherent fact of all operating systems.

Macs have a decent market share and a very large mindshare, but yet are still virus free (though there have been a couple trojans that fizzled out).

So much misinformation in this thread and very few accurate replies.

More megapixels is better than fewer, because:

    1. You can make larger prints
    2. You can crop tighter

    HOWEVER:

There are limitations with the lens and sensor. Putting more MP on the same sized sensor creates higher pixel density. We are at a saturation point with the current 5MP sensor where adding pixels will add substantial noise and degrade the image quality. 8 MP on the current sensor is a downgrade. At best, coupled with in-camera processing algorithms to deal with the noise, it's a lateral move. At best.

You can't simply stick in a bigger sensor, either. You are limited by the focal length, which is dictated by the thickness of the device. There is no magic way around this. Here's a lesson:

    http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/Optical/Focal_Length_01.htm

I won't even get into the lens.

I think Mac sales are directly tied to the Halo affect of the iOS devices. The more they sell there, the more people open up to Mac as an alternative. With Lion having more iOS like interfaces, it will make it even more natural for new customers.

Anecdotal evidence to support your theory...? Me.

Started with an iPod Touch...which led to an iPhone 3GS (Now an iPhone 4)...which led to an iPad...which led to a base model 13" Macbook Pro.

Oh, rinse and repeat for the Mrs. except replace her laptop with an i7 15" Macbook Pro.

And the kid went from an iPod Touch to an iPhone.

All that to say...the Halo affect is in full force at the Ironworker compound! :D We are pretty much an Apple household now.

The iOS like interfaces coming up in Lion helped push us to the MBP's, though I had decided more than a year ago that my next computer was going to be a Mac. And having almost two years of 'experience' with Apple's touch interfaces has made the MBP's trackpad a breeze to get used to. I don't even use a mouse anymore!

that is just the refresh rate being captured. and since it is just a lcd screen the lines are going horizontal, and its turned sideways.

If you look at the picture of the iPhone poster, it seems to have a couple of subtle differences compared to my iPhone:
    http://images.appleinsider.com/macworld-banner-7.jpg

    1) The white etching on the home button seems rounder than current iPhones
    http://www.codefarm.co.uk/userpics/button.jpg

    2) The In Call screen is different, and is that a desktop above the call status? Looks like somefiles icons there
    http://www.codefarm.co.uk/userpics/files.jpg

    3) Look very, very carefully at the top left hand corner: Is there a front facing camera hidden amongst the reflections?
    http://www.codefarm.co.uk/userpics/camera.jpg

Maybe I'm just suffering from pre macworld hallucinations, but that certainly looks different to my iPhone...

As much as i hate to admit it, i have to agree with dime on this one. European countries cannot defend themselves, their militaries are a joke. The US pretty much has to do everything on their own, and then we take the heat for everything. Which is pretty much where american arrogance comes from. Sad but true.

On what grounds do you say that? Which of the foremost European countries such as the UK, France, Germany etc. do you think would be unable to defend themselves in a military conflict with a nation that is anything other than orders of magnitude greater in population such as the US, China or India? The scale is completely relative to the other powers at play, and I don't think they exist like you seem to think they do.

That being said, if Republicans put half the effort into saying what Obama is doing is wrong as they did into legislating, this country would be far better off.

Let see the fanboys defend this:

Rogue Amoeba has said they will no longer develop iPhone apps and will concentrate on the Mac. It had taken three months for Apple to release a bug fix. Does Rogue Amoeba suck too?

Would you buy a CD MB the day the C2D comes out for $700

No. It isn't worth pinching pennies when it comes to notebooks. I'd gladly pay the extra to get something that runs significantly cooler (which apparently is the case with the new MBPs).

If it's anything like the Whitebook I bought about 2.5 yrs ago, the plastic is coming off in chunks on the palm wrest. Mine (now a hand-me-down to my partner) is on its second palm wrest, and has already shed the same pieces.

Sorry, that is utter crap. My best friend in grade school was raised completely without religion, and he is the nicest person in the world. Meanwhile, there are copious and abundant examples of self-centered, amoral, greedy bastards preaching jesus to the masses: if religion cannot help them, what value is it?

It's not a question of "helping" but rather "using"...
